Stuart’s Opera House’s Afterschool Music Program (AMP) is a music program that exists to support and foster young people who are interested in learning how to play a variety of instruments and form bands. Students typically focus on the genre(s) of music they personally gravitate toward, such as rock, pop, r&b, folk, hip-hop, country, electronic, or experimental music. Students are provided instruction in guitar, bass, vocals, keyboards, and drums with potential for additional instruments as well.

AMP provides crucial out-of-school arts enrichment that incorporates musical components with other artistic disciplines. A place for young adults to gain confidence and build skills through music, all levels of musicianship are welcome as students explore all instruments related to the genre(s) of their choosing in a group setting. The program’s goal is to provide an enlivening opportunity to work together as a team, celebrate diversity and creativity with kids by teaching basic music skills, and giving them hands-on experience with all instruments.

ABOUT STUART’S AFTERSCHOOL AUDIO PRODUCTION PROGRAM:

Stuart’s Opera House has created a program of study for students in Southeast Ohio designed to teach the basic skills of audio production in the modern recording studio environment. Students will learn the basics of analog and digital production tools and techniques to record performances. Additionally, students will learn how to mix and prepare music for release into contemporary listening mediums, such as streaming, digital download, CD, and vinyl. The program meets a number of objectives and standards set by the Ohio Department of Education and national Common Core Standards. Standards include Music, Fine Arts, English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Technology.

WHO CAN APPLY?

PLEASE NOTE: AMP registrations are currently full for the 2023-2024 school year. You can go ahead and fill out the application if you would like to be put on a waiting list. The Afterschool Music & Audio Programs at Stuart’s Opera House support and foster 12-21 year-olds interested in learning how to play a variety of instruments, form bands, and produce music.

Please note that completing the application does not ensure program participation. We try our best to accommodate every student who applies, but we may exceed our capacity. Having previous musical experience and abilities increases your viability to join the program.

WHAT ABOUT MY 11 YEAR OLD WHO REALLY WANTS TO DO AMP? We are now accepting applications for 11 year old students! If your young artist is showing signs of musicianship (reads music, plays an instrument, etc), we will consider on a case-by-case basis their enrollment. Feel free to complete the form now, and we will reach out to you.

WHERE DO I APPLY FOR THE AUDIO PROGRAM? Students interested in the Audio Production Program can use the same application and indicate interest in the audio program on the application. Students are welcome to participate in both AMP and Audio if they choose.

DOES MY STUDENT GET TO CHOOSE THEIR BAND AND INSTRUMENT? Assembling our bands each year is always quite the puzzle to solve. We consider multiple variables including student age, instrument choice, ability on their instruments, musical interests such as genre, and what day(s) of the week they can participate. We do our very best to work with our students so they get to join a band with their friends and play the instrument and musical styles they enjoy.
