Stuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville this Saturday is holding what promises to be an impressive night of entertainment for a good cause, the annual “A Night With the Legends.”

The show features Athens and Nelsonville talent playing tribute to some of music’s biggest stars with performances on the Stuart’s stage, all to raise money for Stuart’s Opera House.

And make no mistake, this won’t be karaoke. A full band will be accompanying the “legends.”

Organized by Alex Couladis, the event (which begins at 7 p.m.) packs the Opera House each summer and tickets are going fast. This year’s event will feature tribute performances by local residents singing as Tony Bennett, Joe Cocker, Blondie, Simon & Garfunkel, Cher, Lady Gaga, Al Jarreau, Dusty Springfield, Judy Garland, ZZ Top, the Statler Brothers, Stevie Nicks, Peggy Lee, Tennessee Ernie Ford, the B-52’s, and more.

All the performers will be backed up by the Night with the Legends Band.

2017 marks the ninth year for “A Night With the Legends” at Stuart’s Opera House. The event is organized by Couladis, an Athens native, CPA, business development consultant and Stuart’s Opera House board member. Known locally for his impersonations of Elvis and Vanilla Ice, Couladis also has organized fund-raising events for the USO and Shade Community Center.

In addition to Couladis, performing as legends are Scott McDonald, JoAnn Wolfe, Angela Blair, Otis Crockron, Roger Gilmore, Michael Weiser, Charlie Brown, Stephanie Tikkanen, Bill L’Heureux, Melissa Brobeck, Andy Stone, Tanyah Stone, Annah Korpi and more.

The band features Bill Rawlins, Adam Graham, John Lohse and Jennifer Sheets along with a horn section featuring Kay Carter, Pete Couladis, Scott Carson, Janice Paris, Ken Edwards, Corey Young, Brandon Wolfe, Doug Carter and Kyle Slemmer. The band will be joined by Nick Weiland, Lynn Garbo and Adam Sheets plus backup singers Cathy Lee, Michael Weiser, Tanyah Stone, Melissa Brobeck, Stephanie Tikkanen, Annah Korpi, Roger Gilmore, Charlie Brown, Andy Stone and Bill L’Heureux. Dancers include Kyli MacNeal, Mia Radhiya, Christi Combs and Lilie Combs. Emcee for the evening will be Giles Lee.

All of the performers have donated their time and talent, according to a news release, with proceeds benefiting Stuart’s Opera House. This event is an important fundraiser for the historic 138-year old Stuart’s Opera House. Stuart’s Opera House is a non-profit performing arts center in Nelsonville that hosts more than 75 events a year including music, theater, art, film and educational programming for the region’s students. In addition to money raised through ticket sales, attendees can vote with their dollars for their favorite performer, with the money being partly matched by each performer’s sponsor. Envelopes will be inserted in each program for the show to allow for voting for favorite legends.
