Spoken & Heard is a seasonal series of literary events hosted by Kari Gunter-Seymour, Poet Laureate of Ohio, featuring award-winning authors, poets and singer/songwriters from across the country. February’s events will feature Tim Green, Savannah Sipple, and David Sanders.

Tim Green

Timothy Green has worked as editor of Rattle magazine since 2004. He’s the author of one book of poetry, American Fractal (Red Hen Press, 2009), a contributing columnist for the Press-Enterprise, and co-founder of the Wrightwood Literary Festival. He lives with his wife Megan and their two children in the mountains near Los Angeles.

Savannah Sipple

Savannah Sipple is the author of WWJD & Other Poems (Sibling Rivalry Press, 2019), which was included on the American Library Association’s Over the Rainbow Recommended LGBTQ Reading List. It explores what it is to be a queer woman in Appalachia and is rooted in its culture and in her body. A writer from east Kentucky, her writing has been published in Go Magazine, Southern Cultures, Split This Rock, Salon, and other places. She is also the recipient of grants from the Money for Women/Barbara Deming Memorial Fund and the Kentucky Foundation for Women. A professor, editor, and writing mentor, Savannah resides in Lexington with her wife.

WWJD & Other Poems

David Sanders

David Sanders is the author of two poetry collections from Swallow Press, Compass and Clock and Bread of the Moment. For twenty years he was the general editor of the Hollis Summers Poetry Prize, and he was the founding editor of Poetry News in Review. Originally from Hiram, Ohio, Sanders received his BFA in Creative Writing from Bowling Green and his MFA from the University of Arkansas, where he also did post-graduate work in translation. His poetry has appeared in numerous journals including The Hudson Review, The Southern Review, The New Criterion, and The Boston Review. A former bookstore owner and publisher, David retired from the English Department at Ohio University in 2019. He currently lives in Athens, Ohio.
